The tree is done with a series of watercolor techniques including glazing.  It actually made it into the campus display case for two weeks.

I like the clean sharpness of the lines — especially the trunk. Reminds me of Hokusai’s woodblock prints: same aesthetic sense of beauty to be found in simplicity.

I love this painting. Really love it. I like that the bench is in the title, but is totally deemphasized, and that the sprawling tree takes over the whole composition, both the colors and the shapes.

  3. Max says:

I like all your watercolors, but this one’s my favorite. Gorgeous. The scale and focus works well.

  4. Frank says:

Love the detail on person on the bench. Also love the clean sharpness of the lines.
